Vancouver Provincial Court, where Gabriel Lance, 27, appeared via video on Oct. 9, 2024.

A B.C. man appearing in Vancouver Provincial Court for weapons, resisting police and violence told his mother he loved her from jail Oct. 9.

Gabriel Johnathan Lance, 27, appeared before Judge Eugene Jamieson on nine charges.

Lance appeared via video while a woman sat on the edge of her chair in the front-row gallery making hand gestures at the screen until asked to stop by a deputy sheriff.

Five charges stem from April 7.

It’s alleged Lance committed an aggravated assault of a man and also discharged a gun at the same man with intent to wound, maim or disfigure him.

It’s further alleged Lance stored, handled or transported a 9mm pistol contrary to gun regulations.

It’s also alleged he possessed a 9mm pistol without authorization, licence or registration.

And, it’s alleged Lance also had an air gun or pellet gun for a purpose contrary to the public peace or for committing an offence.

Further, there are two charges that he failed to abide by a release order on Aug. 21 and Aug. 27.

A second sworn information alleges Lance allegedly assaulted a John Doe and resisted a police officer on Sept. 2.

The case has been put to Oct. 22 as a report is put together for the court.

Once the hearing was done, Lance asked if he could greet his mother.

The judge agreed.

“I love you, Mom,” Lance said.

“I love you too, sunshine,” she responded.
