The Sea to Sky highway was , May 24 as crews worked to recover a vehicle, according to Drive BC, before reopening in both directions shortly before 5 p.m.
Earlier in the day, at around noon, Drive BC notified motorists of a northbound vehicle incident blocking the right lane between Porteau Cove and Furry Creek, about 10 kilometres south of Squamish. Though one lane remained open allowing vehicles to pass, the obstruction led to congestion in the area throughout the afternoon.
Officials closed the route entirely shortly before 4 p.m. to accommodate a vehicle retrieval, bringing traffic to a standstill and causing backups in both directions. The southbound lane reopened in short order, but all northbound lanes remained closed as of 4:30 p.m.
Thirty minutes later, Drive BC announced the vehicle recovery efforts were again only blocking the northbound right lane. Motorists in the area should still expect delays.
Reports posted in the Sea to Sky Road Conditions Facebook Group describe the incident as a truck flipped over into a ditch.
鉀 UPDATE - is now open southbound north of Porteau Cove. Northbound remains closed for vehicle recovery.
