"We know many Island residents were lucky to be able to buy tickets and we want to make sure they have lots of options to get there and back," says BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall in an email to Vancouver Is Awesome.
This year, starting Thursday, Dec. 5, and running to Monday, Dec. 9, extra sailings have been added each day in each direction.
"We’ve proactively scheduled 22 extra sailings on the Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay route over the December 6 – 8 weekend so customers can plan their travels well in advance," Marshall adds.
For example, those coming from the Island have three extra sailings to make it over to Vancouver on Thursday, Dec 5 (the extra sailings are at noon, 4 p.m., and 8 p.m.).
And those heading home on Monday, Dec. 9 have two extra times to choose from (10 a.m. and 2 p.m.).
In all, there appear to be more than 20 extra sailings over the five days, so no one should be out on waves, being tossed. (And yes, you can wear your blue dress on a boat.)
BC Ferries' competitor, the , has not announced its schedule for December yet and reservations are only available into the spring. However, it does regularly have late-night sailings from Vancouver to the Island (Nanaimo) for major events.
