13 of Canada's most wanted allegedly involved in B.C. crimes

Suspects are accused of alleged crimes such as murder, assaults, sex offences, child abduction and drug trafficking.

There are currently 91 people on the RCMP's most-wanted list.

Multiple people on the are connected with alleged B.C. crimes, including murder, assaults, sex offences, child abduction and drug trafficking.

The list includes those who have been on parole or probation, situations that are part of a court sentence. What that means is that a person continues to serve the remainder of a sentence after prison release.

Kevin Louis Vermette

Vermette is alleged to be responsible for the July 12, 1997 triple shotgun murders of three young adults in Kitimat.

Police said he abandoned his vehicle at his motel residence and fled on foot into the mountain wilderness with his black labrador dog. He has not been seen since.

A reward may be offered through Crime Stoppers. Callers are kept confidential and after an arrest is made, tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Christian Bergstaller

Bergstaller is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for fraud.

Police allege he committed multiple frauds at various financial institutions in the Lower Mainland between July and December 2017.

Police allege he opened various accounts in different names and saturated the accounts with fraudulent cheque deposits and allegedly committed fraudulent cash withdrawals.

It is believed he could be residing in the Greater Montreal area.

Wissam Tarabichi

Tarabichi is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parental abduction.

On April 4, 2018, the Abbotsford Police Department engaged in an investigation of parental abduction. It's alleged Tarabichi took his two children, a nine-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son, to Seattle on March 24, 2018.

Police believe all three crossed the Canada-U.S. border near Abbotsford. Police said Tarabichi and his children boarded a plane in Seattle the following day and flew to Beirut, Lebanon.

As a result of the investigation, Tarabichi was charged with abduction in contravention of a custody order.

Tarabichi has no prior criminal history. He is a computer consultant by trade and has worked as such around the world.

Tarabichi holds Canadian, Lebanese and Syrian passports.

He is currently believed to be in Beirut. He has family who live in Le'Havre, France, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Ken Cuong Manh Nguyen

Nguyen is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large.

Nguyen is currently serving a life sentence for second-degree murder of a rival Asian gang member in 1999.

Nguyen was granted permission by the Parole Board of Canada to travel to Vietnam from April to May of 2015 and failed to return.

He has contacted his parole officer and indicated he has decided to remain in Vietnam and will not be returning to Canada.

Nguyen has family in Vancouver and a girlfriend in Victoria.

He was working as a hairdresser in Victoria up until his alleged breach of conditions.

Police are working in conjunction with the Correctional Service of Canada.

Varaporn Gop Toassami

Toassami is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parental abduction.

Police allege that, on Nov. 18 2010, Toassami departed Vancouver with her daughter Chonticha Galame Ellefson-Toassami, and flew to Bangkok, Thailand and has not returned.

Jaroslav Krumlik

Krumlik is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for sexual offences.

On Feb. 12, 1999, the RCMP received reports of juvenile sexual assaults involving two young male victims that took place in several Canadian provinces over a period of time.

The alleged assaults started in the winter of 1973 and continued until the fall of 1977. Police said the juvenile victims were allegedly sexually assaulted numerous times by an adult male: Krumlik, a Czechoslovakian who resided in the United States and Canada.

Krumlik is wanted on two counts of indecent assault on a male and gross indecency. Police believe Krumlik is residing in the Czech Republic.

Federal RCMP are working on the case in conjunction with Surrey’s major crime section.

Morteza Izadifar

On Feb. 25, 2005, Richmond RCMP became aware of a local limousine driver who was allegedly luring at-risk teenagers by providing them with free limousine rides, cash and alcohol.

Police allege Morteza Izadifar often entertained these youths in his Vancouver apartment and engaged in inappropriate sexual activities.

Police estimated that these assaults occurred between 1999 and 2002.

Izadifar is wanted for sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under 14. Police believe he may have returned to the Middle East, possibly Iran.

RCMP are working in conjunction with Richmond police.

Peng Victor Li

Li is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder. He's wanted in connection to the beating death of a Markham, Ont. teenager.

Police say Li has connections in B.C. and in China and is believed to be using a passport in his alias name Hao Lu.

Jeffrey Paul Emery

Emery is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for aggravated assault.

Police allege Emery poured a bottle of hairspray over his common-law wife and set her on fire during a domestic argument on April 13, 2004. The woman suffered third-degree burns to her legs, torso, arms and face and much of her hair was burned away.

Police said Emery refused to take her to the hospital.

North Vancouver RCMP were alerted to the incident more than a month later when a relative contacted police.

Emery was arrested but absconded in December 2004 during an adjournment of his court case. He was convicted in absentia of aggravated assault and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police said Emery has contacts in B.C. and Ontario.

He has worked as a handyman and is particularly proficient at working on boats. Police believe Emery may be living near a boating community. He has a medical condition that requires him to take medication regularly. It is very likely that he obtains and fills out prescriptions on a regular basis.

The case is being done in conjunction with the North Vancouver RCMP detachment.

Kin Chuen Tommy Ho

Ho is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violation.

Police said Ho was serving an 18-year sentence for drug importing and trafficking offences.

Ho was released on parole in 2005 and was meeting his release conditions until he absconded in 2006.

He is believed to have connections in China, Hong Kong and Australia.

The case is being worked in conjunction with B.C. RCMP.

Bing Jie Ma

Ma is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for forcible confinement and sexual assault.

Police allege that, on Oct. 14 2008, Ma sexually assaulted a woman at his residence. When she attempted to escape he choked her until she lost consciousness, police allege.

It is believed that Ma may have fled to Eastern Canada.

The case is being done in conjunction with the Vancouver Police Department.

Vaclav Roman Starostik

Starostik is wanted on Canada-wide warrant for breach of release conditions.

Police allege Starostik was the head of one of the world’s largest trafficking organizations.

Police said he was serving a life sentence for conspiracy to traffic heroin and was on parole when he absconded in 2004.

Starostik has access to money from the proceeds of crime, police said. He was last known to be in the Czech Republic.

The case is being done in conjunction with British Columbia RCMP.

Sergius Joseph Maher

Maher is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violation.

Police said Maher was serving a six-year sentence for manslaughter. He breached his parole and has been wanted on a Canada-wide warrant since 1982.

The case is being done in conjunction with B.C. RCMP.
