BC United is losing another veteran MLA.

Michael Lee, BC United MLA for Vancouver-Langara, today announced he will not seek re-election.

But unlike some other BC United MLAs, who are quitting provincial politics to run federally for the Conservatives, Lee is planning to return to the private sector.

“After the completion of my current MLA term in October, I will become the chief strategy officer for UrbanLogiq,” Lee said in a post on X.

Lee said it was a difficult decision, but was made easier by the knowledge that his party has found a replacement candidate to run in Vancouver-Langara – Jaime Stein.

Lee is currently the official opposition’s critic for Attorney General and Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.

Prior to entering politics, Lee was a lawyer for Lawson Lundell LLP. Lee will be joining UrbanLogiq in October.

"Michael’s extensive legal and business expertise and profound understanding of the public sector will be invaluable as we expand our services and impact,” said UrbanLogiq CEO Mark Masongsong.

“Michael will focus on channel partnerships, corporate development, and regulatory AI governance in his new role as Chief Strategy Officer. He will be instrumental in guiding UrbanLogiq through this exciting phase of growth.”

UrbanLogiq is a software company that aggregates and analyzes data from a variety of sources to help municipal governments in their planning for infrastructure, transportation, and community services.

“UrbanLogiq is a leading example of how data and artificial intelligence can be harnessed for the public good," Lee said in a press release.

"I'm very excited to join the team and work towards ensuring that UrbanLogiq’s efforts in public safety, transportation management, economic development and urban planning continue to provide significant benefits to communities and governments alike."
