BEIJING — Canadians were coaching on all four sheets at the Ice Cube on Thursday night.

Peter Gallant was serving as South Korea coach against Canada's Jennifer Jones in women's round-robin play. On the next sheet over, Wayne Middaugh was coaching the Swedish team.

Laine Peters was coaching the American team and Pierre Charette was coaching the Swiss team.

Joining alternate Lisa Weagle on the Canadian bench were national team coach Elaine Dagg-Jackson and Team Jones coach Viktor Kjell.

ROCK AND ROLL

With the weeklong mixed doubles competition complete, new curling stones were brought in for the men's and women's events at the Beijing Games.

All the rocks were purchased by Beijing organizers (BOCOG), a World Curling Federation spokesman said in an email.

After the Games, it's possible the stones could be used at a nearby legacy facility or potentially at future world curling events in China, the spokesman said.

Curling competition continues through Feb. 20, the final day of the Games. Wheelchair curling is on the schedule at the March 4-13 Paralympic Games.

FAMILY AFFAIR

It's a family affair at the Ice Cube for Canadian men's second Brett Gallant.

In addition to his father coaching the South Korean women's team, Gallant's fiancée, Jocelyn Peterman, plays second for the Canadian rink.

Brett said they got a picture together by the Olympic rings earlier in the week.

"Obviously it's a massive goal for us all to be here," he said. "To be able to do it all together is pretty special."
