"Holy moly!"
Without his reading glasses on, West Vancouver's Leslie Hasman needed to take a closer look at his Lotto 6/49 ticket to be sure just how many zeros he was seeing.
“I asked the cashier to print out the winning numbers, I put them in my pocket, and then I went to buy a few groceries,” Hasman recalled about how he realized he’d won the jackpot on New Year’s Eve. “I have no idea what I ended up buying.”
Once back home from the 7-Eleven on Marine Drive, where he both purchased and checked the ticket, Hasman took a closer look at the draw information, including the winning numbers 7, 14, 30, 32, 38 and 45, and the ticket purchase location – West Vancouver.
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“Holy Moly! That’s got to be me,” he said.
The B.C. ticket was the only one sold across Canada to match all six numbers drawn for the multimillion-dollar jackpot.
A new barbecue
Hasman purchased the ticket in a $10 Lotto pack, and won selecting his own numbers. The ticket won the Dec. 30, 2020 draw to win exactly $9,342,568.90.
And how does he plan to enjoy his winnings?
Hasman says he will celebrate by treating his family to a trip to Hawaii once it’s safe to travel. In the meantime, however, he wants to buy a new barbecue.
He also plans to donate some of his prize to hospitals in the Lower Mainland.
