Two men and one woman have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2023 overdose death of a 52-year-old woman in Nanaimo.
Wendy Head died March 7, 2023, at a residence in the 2300-block of Autumnwood Drive in Nanaimo. Information that emerged after her death led investigators to consider Head’s fatal overdose a homicide, and in August 2023, the province’s integrated anti-gang agency began working with Nanaimo and North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP.
The joint investigation led by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit led to charges against three people from Duncan.
Kehar Gary Sangha, 59, and Lily Irene Lindbergh, 44, both face one count of first-degree murder and one count of counselling to commit murder. Tyler Stephen Elrix, 41, has been charged with first-degree murder, the anti-gang agency said in a statement.
First-degree murder charges generally indicate a killing is planned and deliberate or that a killing occurred during another offence, such as sexual assault or kidnapping.
Sangha and Lindbergh have been arrested and will remain in custody for a court appearance at a later date.
Tyler Elrix has an outstanding arrest warrant in relation to the charges and police are asking for the public’s help locating him.
Anyone who has information on Elrix’s whereabouts is asked to share it with their local police or Crime Stoppers.
Police caution the public not to approach or engage Elrix.
