Newfoundland and Labrador鈥檚 premier says the province will provide $21.2 million in its upcoming budget to fund 10 new family care teams.
Andrew Furey says the collaborative teams will help increase access to primary care for up to 80,000 people.
The teams include family physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and social workers, as well as other health professionals.
Furey says the new teams will add to the eight collaborative teams that are already in various stages of implementation, with a goal of creating 35 multidisciplinary teams in all over five years.
The new teams are slated to operate in Bonavista, the Brookfield/Centreville area, Clarenville, Conception Bay North, Deer Lake-White Bay, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Labrador West, Port aux Basques and St. John鈥檚.
The provincial government is to table its 2023-24 budget on Thursday.
